Pack some travel candles if you plan on staying in hotels during your trip. This can make your room smell a bit better. They are soothing and give the room a romantic feel, making it easy to relax. A lot of retailers carry these candles, which sell in sizes convenient for travel and devoid of wax drips.

Sign up for the e-newsletters of all the major airlines. These e-newsletters will give you access to last-minute offers, special discounts and other deals that may not be available to anyone else. Once you have completed your travel, you will probably want to unsubscribe to these e-newsletters as they may clutter you inbox. However, the savings you may receive will far outweigh any clutter.

If the hotel that you want to stay at is booked, ask if they have any rooms that are out of service. Sometimes a hotel will classify a room as being out-of-service for minor cosmetic needs.

Bring clothespins on your next trip. They have several uses, and since they are small they take up hardly any room.

Write all of your information on a label on your luggage when you are traveling. If your luggage happens to get lost and there are no external tags, you will have ones inside. If your luggage ever escapes your sight and gets lost, this can identify your property and provide information on where to return your luggage.

If you would like to be as prepared as you can when vacationing in a foreign country, then you should have a small amount of local currency handy. In some countries, if you arrive after business hours, it may be hard to get local currency. Generally, larger banks have access to all foreign currency and will be happy to exchange with you while you are still in your country. By doing this, you will be able to start buying things and having fun the moment you land.

If you are leaving for your trip from a port city, stay at a hotel with free parking and get there the night before you are to leave. Even if they don't publicize the service, it can't hurt to ask about free parking deals at your hotel.

Try to wear comfortable and light shoes when air traveling - shoes that you can slip out of easily. Security procedures require you to take your shoes off. Comfort is of utmost importance. Traveling by plane results in a lot of sitting and very little walking, so heavy- duty footwear is not needed or recommended. Ideally, you want to be wearing sandals or even flip-flops.
